Singer-songwriter: acoustic guitar, harmonica, vocals – contemporary folk with touches of gospel, blues, jazz and pop

Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, TOBY has immersed himself in all genres of American Music of the last 50 years. His interest in African Rhythms & World Music, coupled with his keen ear for highly intuitive arrangements, has been the hallmark of his writing and performance styles, and he has garnered a strong following of listeners on Long Island and beyond. A graduate of the prestigious Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem Israel, he continues to search for material that stays as close to his musical roots as possible while at the same time reaching for new and exciting musical universes.

THE TOBY TOBIAS ENSEMBLE is a Long Island-based band, under the direction of South African-born guitarist and composer, Toby Tobias. The music of THE TOBY TOBIAS ENSEMBLE can best be described as Modern Folk/Jazz, influenced by Funk & World Rhythms. This description, however, does not do justice to the fantastic arrangements and joyful exhilarating sounds of the band. The Ensemble is comprised of some of Long Island’s best and most innovative musicians. Together they have strung together an impressive and eclectic array of original and popular tunes which they perform and have performed at numerous venues throughout Long Island & NYC over the past several years. From a simple duo to a 7-piece larger Ensemble, they have found the right mix of songs, orchestration and performance ability to delight and enthrall crowds wherever they have the opportunity to perform.

Join us for an exhilarating  evening of great music in the intimate setting of the Our Times Coffeehouse.
